The Top 10 Cell Phone Novels In English

One of the least talked about subjects on this site, but one for which you will see more articles about in the future, are Cell Phone Novels.

This unique  form of storytelling that has grown immensely popular in Japan and has its roots back when Charles Dickens was writing stories, has spread from the land of the rising sun to China, Sweden, Germany, Africa, and most recently North America.

Individual people using their cell phone or computer, upload their story as they write it to a website, where readers can view it, subscribe to it if they like it, and leave comments to interact with the Author and potentially shape the direction of the story. Written in a short and easy to read format, Cell Phone Novels are serialized fiction for the digital age.

TextNovel.com is a cell phone novel website, almost the only of it’s kind in English, that hopes to gain popularity for the format. Now with their addition of a Cell Phone Novel category, a proper list of the top English novels can be gathered.

Top 10 Cell Phone Novels (Originally Written In English)

1. Secondhand Memories「むかしのおもいで」 by Satoshi Takatsu – 25,140 Views

2. Once Upon A Christmas Wish… by Matthew Reeves – 14,472 Views

9. Red String (Of Fate) by Mugi-chan – 91 Views

10. My Girl by Xinping2016 – 82 Views

(All Stats Taken As of 11:59 PM Feb. 19, 2010)

Obviously Cell Phone Novels are new and still relatively unknown to the mass public. However, I think it would be a safe bet to say that given time, the format will gain more popularity just as it did in Japan when it first started.

It should also be noted that since the addition of the new Category, an influx of new novels have arrived.

Currently, TextNovel.com is the only cell phone novel website in English (discounting Moba because their rating system is made worthless by its users), and the TOP 10 list was gathered by Views (as they do in Japan). I thought that was obvious. Since there is only one site to gather statistics from, the top 10 from this site are currently the top in English. Do you feel this is unfair? Do you have any other suggestions or something we should consider that we might have missed? I’d appreciate your feedback.

Well, I would think ‘top’ is based on ratings and number of ratings than views. I know it is ‘obvious’ it was rated by views. No need to get snipey. The reason I asked if it is by views is because I have been to textnovel.com before.

If it is according to views, I’m curious why other stories that have been posted with more views didn’t make this “top ten” list. Do they not meet a specific requirement of a text novel or isn’t in an ‘authentic’ text novel format so aren’t really text novels?

If I might ask, are you Kali Heart, author of “The Double Edge Sword”?

I know no one will ever read this, but they can’t possibly be “Kali Heart.” And whoever this “Kali Heart” is, if they use the word “snipey” – which isn’t even correctly spelled, they’re certainly not worth reading anyway.

This is definitely based on ratings, by the way, since it’s completely obvious that the top stories have won more awards and attracted more audiences.

These cell phone novels are the ones under the cell phone novel genre. and These are the authentic “text novels” indeed because of their formats. Most novels on textnovel are not “cell phone novels” really but are rather online serial ongoing novels. What sets cell phone novels are their short chapters, sometimes poetic, carrying the feel of authentic japanese cell phone novels, and are possibly written on cell phones. So yes these are indeed the top 10 cell phone novels in North America.

Anyway thank you for the mention, matt!! I’m honoured that you’ll put me on the list haha =)

Well I’d love to join the site but its giving me trouble. For one its saying my email and number have already been used which isn’t possible because i have never signed up before and I’m using a new email for my phone service. Another thing is there is no way top get ahold of them about such problems which if I’m not mistaken all sites should have contact information.
